Punjab workers gear up for January Strike

Gearing up for the January workers’ strike, the Punjab CITU called for a joint meeting of the major trade unions was held at Jalandhar in October 8 to discuss the strike to be held on January 8 and 9 and steps needed to be taken to involve government and semi-government employees in the protest.

The meeting resolved to publish one laakh handbills and 15,000 postersA state-level meet regarding the same is scheduled to be held on November 5. District-level conventions are planned to be held in the months of October and November.

The unions also resolved to fully utilise all means of propaganda to make the strike a grand success. Ahead of the January strike, a state-level joint mass dharna would be staged in front of the Labour minister office at Mohali, Punjab

The meeting.was attended by Comrade Raghunath.Singh general secretary, Jatinder Pal Singh, Mohinder Kumar Badhonwan and Kewal Hajara all state office bearers.

Comrade Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary AITUC, Com Natha Singh, general secretary and Shib Kumar, vice president of CITU Punjab, Dr Subhash Sharma, president,Inderjeet Singh, state secretary of INTUC and Comrade Guljar Singh, general secretary AICCTU attended the meeting.Dr Subhash Sharma State President of INTUC chaired the meeting.
