Kambhampati Sarma

THE election notification for 119 constituencies of Telangana Assembly was issued on November 12. After a long tussle, the ‘Mahakutami’, a four party alliance of Congress, Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Jana Samithi and CPI, announced its first list of 65 candidates from the Congress party on November 12. The TDP, TJS, and CPI are to contest in 14, 8, and 3 seats respectively. However, the other alliance parties are negotiating for more seats and the CPI has alleged that injustice has been done in allotment of seats.

On the other hand, the Bahujan Left Front (BLF) has released the third list of 14 candidates with the CPI(M) contesting from four places. So far, the BLF has announced 70 candidates, of which 17 belong to Scheduled Caste, eight to Scheduled Tribe, 39 come from Backward Class communities, two were allotted to Muslims and four were given to candidates from open category. A house-to-house campaign is on full swing in the constituencies where the candidates have been announced.

Midiam Baburao, CPI(M) candidate, belonging to ST, from Bhadrachalam constituency,  has filed his nomination on November 12, preceded by a massive rally in which Tammineni Veerabhadram, CPI(M) state secretary and other leaders of the party participated.

Tammineni called for education, health, housing and land for all, remunerative prices for farmers, employment, minimum wage and social justice. He flayed K Chandrasekhar Rao, the chief minister of Telangana, for not allocating any funds to villages and they are far from development. He noted that 3,000 schools were closed during the TRS rule.

Earlier there were meetings, bike rallies and house-to-house campaign in Shaadnagar, Miryalaguda, Janagaon, Wyra, Suryapet, Peddapally, Aswaraopet, Secunderabad, and Hanumakonda constituencies.

Social justice to all communities is the aim of BLF, reiterated Tammineni. The BLF promised to follow the Kerala model which has highest literate population in the country and is spending highest amount per person for healthcare.
Those who ruled Telangana for the last 70 years have not improved agriculture. As many as 830 farmers committed suicide since the formation of Telangana. The Bahujan Left Front has come forward and promised to implement Swaminathan Commission recommendations of giving remunerative prices for their produces.

Welfare measures like Bahujan food canteens in all villages, free power supply upto 200 units for the poor, Savitri Education Scheme and unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 are promised by the BLF, if elected to power.
