IN a press statement issued on November 23, the All India Democratic Women’s Association has strongly condemned the brutal rape and murder of an adolescent girl of tenth class in Kakdwip, South 24 Parganas on November 22. This is an incident trailing after Park Street, Kamduni, Katwa and innumerable such in West Bengal under the regime of a woman chief minister. The earlier cases are yet to see justice. AIDWA strongly feels that West Bengal has become a state of rape and violence against women.

IN a democratic country where the constitution provides the right to live with dignity to all its citizens, choice becomes an important matter. Choice, in totality includes everything – education, dressing, living etc,  and in a globalised world where people from various backgrounds are interacting with one another, the freedom to choose a partner becomes an important aspect of choice.

THE All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) successfully conducted a bus jatha across Telangana against the new Excise policy of the K Chandrashekar Rao government permitting wide sale of cheap liquor in the state. Strongly opposing the move, AIDWA took up statewide campaign and at the end, the government had to roll back its decision to sale cheap liquor through the State Beverages Corporation. The bus jatha went across the state from August 17 to 28, and group meetings and public rallies were held at village, mandal and division levels.

HUNDREDS of women and men demonstrated in front of Saudi Arabian Embassy on September 10, demanding thorough investigation and action against the rape and trafficking accused diplomat.  The demonstration was led by Jagmati Sangwan, general secretary (AIDWA), Sehba Farooqui, general secretary (JMS) and Shabanam Hashmi leader of Anhad.  The demonstration started from Malai Mandir.  While approaching the embassy with banners, placards and slogans demanding waving off of immunity and initiation of strict action against the accused, it was barricaded by the police near the embassy.  It may be me

In a letter written to the prime minister on August 18, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has expressed support to the legitimate demand of the ex-service men of our country who have been justly demanding one-rank-one-pension. For this they are sitting in a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the last three months and now they have started an indefinite hunger strike.
