Bihar: Comrade J C Basu Martyred

KHAGARIA is one of the districts of Bihar, which is known for intense land struggles. Dozens of leading comrades such as Comrade Anandi Singh, Comrade Uttam Singh, Comrade Jay Jay Ram Singh, Comrade Murli Manohar Mandal have been martyred during the ongoing class battle in the district. Comrade Jagdish Chandra Basu, district secretariat member of the CPI(M) and  district secretary of Kisan Sabha is the latest victim of the class struggle. He was gunned down on April 11, in Alauli, Meghauna panchayat in Khagaria district of Bihar.

This Incident took place when Comrade Jagdish Chandra Basu was returning back to his home after attending Covid-19 relief meeting at Kokraha middle school. Locals rushed him to Sadar hospital where the doctors referred him to Begusarai hospital and at there the doctors declared him brought dead.

He was a mass leader of the district. The main reason behind his murder was his relentless protest against the feudal-criminal nexus. Last year, on August 15th, headmaster of Chikni primary school, Shyam Sundar Kumar was murdered. Comrade Basu was continuously fighting for the immediate arrest of his murderer.

Despite the lockdown due to Corona virus pandemic, thousands of people attended the funeral of martyr, Comrade Jagdish Chandra Basu.

Comrade Basu started his political career from the very beginning of his student life and joined the Party. His father Comrade Lakshmi Narayan Yadav was also a member of CPI(M) Khagaria district committee. He played a major role in organising the people of the weaker sections in his panchayat and led many land struggles. After the death of Comrade Lakshmi Narayan Yadav in 1987, he became the active member of Party. He was always in the frontline of the struggles against the feudal criminals. He was elected as mukhiya multiple times and also elected as member of zila parishad from his panchayat Meghauna.  Among locals he was popular by the name "Munna Mukhiya".

Three named and two unnamed FIRs have been lodged by CPI(M) Khagaria district committee member and the brother of  Comrade Basu, Shambhu Sharan Sudhanshu.

A delegation comprising CPI(M) state secretariat member, Ajay Kumar, CPI state secretary, Satyanarayan Singh, CPI(M) district secretary, Sanjay Kumar, district secretariat member, Surendra Prasad, Shivji Mahato, Kedar Narayan Azad met the district magistrate and superintendent of police and demanded the immediate arrest of the murderers and severe punishment for them, compensation of Rs 50 lakh and to provide security to his family members. 

On behalf of Party state committee, state secretary, Awadhesh Kumar has also sent a  condolence message to the bereaved family. The CPI(M) has lost a revolutionary, dedicated comrade and it's a big loss to the Party and also for the peasant’s movement as a whole.
