AIKS Extends Solidarity to SKM’s Call to Burn Kharif MSP Order
The following statement has been issued by All India Kisan Sabha on May 25, 2026:
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) extends its support to the call given by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) to burn the copies of Kharif Minimum Support Price (MSP) order in villages on May 27-29, and to hold demonstrations against the rise in prices of fertilisers, diesel and the accompanying black marketing. The fact that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is continuing its policy of not offering MSP on the Swaminathan formula of C2+50% even as inflation of input prices reaches unprecedented heights exposes its anti-farmer mentality.
According to the projected cost estimates for 2026–27, the MSP announced by the government for major Kharif crops is substantially lower than the C2+50% price. For paddy, the most important Kharif crop, the MSP has been fixed at Rs 2,441 per quintal, whereas the C2+50% price should be Rs 3,243 per quintal. This means a loss of Rs 802 per quintal for farmers. The BJP-ruled state of Haryana has estimated the production cost of paddy at Rs 2,696 and has demanded an MSP of Rs 2,996 accordingly and Maharashtra has shown the production cost as Rs 4,291 and has demanded an MSP of Rs 4,888.
The highest paddy MSP in India was given by the LDF government in Keralam at Rs 3,000 per quintal, with the procurement price enhanced every year in line with the rise in costs. It remains to be seen whether the newly elected UDF government will continue the trend or betray the hopes of paddy farmers of the state. In other states, the mandi rates of paddy are pathetically low, sometimes going below Rs 2,000 per quintal. This is the outcome of low MSP coupled with low procurement by the Food Corporation of India (FCI). For other crops, where procurement is even lower, prices crash further.
The government must enact a legal guarantee for MSP at C2+50% with universal procurement, and immediately withdraw the fake MSP declared on the basis of baseless calculations while taking action against the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). It must also immediately roll back the hike in petrol and diesel prices and ensure that diesel is made available at tax-free rates for tractors and all agricultural purposes. At the same time, the increased prices of fertilisers must be reduced by rolling back the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) regime, guaranteeing adequate availability of fertilisers at fixed prices, and taking strict action against black marketeers who are cheating farmers.
The AIKS appeals to all its units across the country to observe the call given by SKM with full vigour.
