Mumbai trade unions protest murder of Indian sailors by US strike

On 19th June 2026, major trade unions of Mumbai held a militant joint demonstration at the Collectors office at Bandra Kurla Complex in the vicinity of the US Consulate, to protest against the murder of three Indian sailors by the US military missile strike on a civilian cargo ship in international waters near Iran.  The participating unions included the CITU, AITUC,  INTUC,  AICCTU, FSUI, and TUCI.

Com. Manoj Yadav, General Secretary of the Forward Seaman's Union of India addressed the meeting and gave a detailed narration of the strike by the US and also about his visit to the home village of Chaurasia, one of the victims.

A resolution was placed in Marathi by Advocate Swati Kunchikurve of AITUC. It was read out in English and explained in Hindi by Com. Vivek Monteiro of CITU. The following is the text of the resolution :

“We, the workers and trade unions of Maharashtra strongly condemn the murder of three Indian citizens and working seafarers by an illegal missile attack on civilian shipping in international waters perpetrated by the USA military. This killing of three Indian sailors is a war crime. We demand that our Indian government must officially condemn the attack and take immediate steps to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

The Indian workers and trade unions condemn the illegal war initiated by the USA and Israel on Iran and its people. We hold the US and Israel fully responsible for the adverse consequences of the illegal war for the Indian people.

The Indian citizens stand with the government and  people of Iran in their brave resistance against the imperialist and warmongering attacks of the USA and Israel on their nation.

We demand that our Indian government should in no way assist the USA and Israel in their illegal imperialist war against Iran and its people.”

The resolution was passed unanimously by the participants.

The demonstrators displayed banners demanding official action by the Indian government against the war crime of killing three Indian citizens.

The meeting was addressed by Com. Patekar, Com.  Babli Rawat and Com. Sukumar Damle of AITUC. Com. Sayeed Ahmed and Com. Vivek Monteiro of CITU, Brother Nivrutti Desai of INTUC and Shri Firoze Mithiborwala. The concluding speech was given by Com. Milind Ranade. He emphasised that the working class and trade unions must jointly come forward to to take up important political demands of the Indian citizens.
