ON July 4, CPI(M) general secretary, Sitaram Yechury, wrote to the Law Commission of India in response to its letter dated June 14 seeking the opinion of CPI(M) on the issue of holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. The letter enclosed a note which contains the considered objections of the CPI(M) to such a proposal.
THE All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued on January 16, has said that its application in the Aadhar Case – writ petition (Civil) No 342 of 2017 in the matter of Shanta Sinha and another Vs Union of India and others has been accepted by the Supreme Court with the intervention application number 6666/18 dated January 15, 2018. Advocate on Record Reshmitha Ramachandran has filed the application. Senior lawyer of Supreme Court Adv P V Surendra Nath will represent AIKS. The Constitution Bench of Supreme Court will hear the case on January 17, 2018.
THE 17th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP) was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from October 30-November 1, 2015.
The meeting provided an opportunity for exchange of perspectives and information on the latest developments in each country and region and the response of Communist, Left and working class forces to defend the rights of the people and against various forms of oppression, exploitation and discrimination.
Below we reproduce the intervention made by the CPI(M) at the 17th International Meeting of the Communist and Workers' Parties held on the theme, “The Tasks of Communist and Workers’ Parties to Strengthen the Struggle of the Working Class against Capitalist Exploitation, Imperialist Wars and Fascism, For Workers’ and Peoples’ Emancipation, For Socialism”. The meeting was held in Istanbul, Turkey from October 30-November 1, 2015. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and head of the International Department, MA Baby made this intervention.
