The other one is the elimination of another fan favourite Brazil in the quarterfinals, denying the chance to enjoy a mouthwatering Brazil Vs Argentina semifinal. Of course, the failure of countries like Germany and Belgium to pass through the group stages was a surprise.

EACH year, the United States government passes a military budget that gets larger and larger, obscene really given the cost-of-living crisis that afflicts the world and the enormous challenges of climate change and environmental destruction. THE Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) held its Special National Conference in November 2022, two years after its 21st Congress. The Conference had two main points as its agenda – one, a review of the political situation in the country, assessments made by the Party Congress and the interventions of the PCP and two, election of a new general secretary.The National Conference of the PCP is in a way a mid-term review, carried out in an extensive manner. The draft Political Resolution prepared for the Conference was discussed thoroughly within the Party.

22nd World Peace Council Assembly Held in Vietnam

THE 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council (WPC) was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 22-24, 2022. One hundred and eight  delegates, representing 58 organisations from 53 countries participated in this Assembly. The Vietnam Peace Committee (VPC) hosted this event for the first time in Vietnam.  Three representatives from the All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO), one of the founder organisations of the WPC, participated in the Assembly.The WPC Assembly was preceded by a meeting of the Executive Committee of the WPC on November 21.

Australia’s Growing Anti-China Military Ties with the United States

ON November 15, 2022, during the G20 summit in Bali (Indonesia), Australia’s prime minister Anthony Albanese told journalists that his country seeks a ‘stable relationship with China’. The main reason for this, Albanese said, is because China is ‘Australia’s largest trading partner. They are worth more than Japan, the US, and the Republic of Korea together combined’. China is Australia’s largest destination for exports, and it is the largest exporter into Australia. This has been the situation since 2009.

ON November 13, 2022, US President Joe Biden met with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The focus of their public remarks was North Korea. ‘For years’, Biden said, ‘our countries have been engaged in a trilateral cooperation out of a shared concern for the nuclear and missile threats North Korea poses to our people’. Kishida concurred, worrying that the tension in the Sea of Japan would continue.
