MAHARASHTRA: Farmers Wrest Historic Loan Waiver through United 10 Day Strike Struggle

IT was a historic struggle. And it culminated in an equally historic victory. It has already had its impact all over Maharashtra. And it will have its impact in the country.On June 11, 2017, the farmers of Maharashtra at last won the hard-fought battle for a loan waiver after a ten day unprecedented strike struggle that began on June 1, supported by a massive Maharashtra Bandh on June 5.

MAHARASHTRA: AIKS to Organise Whipcord Rally for Loan Waiver and Remunerative Prices

MAHATMA Jotirao Phule had written a celebrated book that was aptly called “Shetkaryacha Aasood” (whipcord of the farmer). The Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has begun an Aasood Yatra throughout the state from April 11. The date is historic for three reasons: it is the 190th birth anniversary of Mahatma Phule; it is the death anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji, whom Phule had hailed as the king of the peasantry; and it is the 81st foundation day of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS).

MAHARASHTRA: Extended State Committee Resolves to March Forward to Build Revolutionary Party with Mass Line

THE extended meeting of the CPI(M) Maharashtra state committee was held on March 25-26, 2017, at Comrade B T Ranadive Bhawan, Navi Mumbai, to review the Party organisation, the independent and democratic functioning of mass organisations and to decide fresh directions for class and mass struggles. It resolved to march forward to build a revolutionary party with a mass line in the state.

“Everyone aspires to visit Kashmir studded with breathtaking mountains, lakes, rivers and orchards at least once in life. But present day rulers are forgetting that Kashmir, heaven of natural beauty, is also inhabited by people. Muslims, Sikhs, Bouddhas and Hindus were all living in complete harmony in Kashmir before 1947. In fact, Kashmiri people had given the notice of quit Kashmir to British rulers much before independence. Maharaja Hari Singh of Jammu Kashmir intended to keep Kashmir an independent state and therefore, kept touch with rulers of both India and Pakistan as well.

October Revolution Centenary Celebrated in Mumbai

THE Left Front in Mumbai organised a big procession from Kotwal Garden, Dadar (West) to Prof. BN Vaidya Hall, Dadar (East) covering a distance of 1.5 kilometres and a public meeting at Prof. BN Vaidya Hall on November 7 on the occasion of the onset of centenary year of Great October Revolution resulting in the formation of USSR. The Left Front in Mumbai comprises of CPI, CPI(M), PWP, Lal Nishan Party, Lal Nishan Party (Leninist), CPI(ML) Liberation and SUCI (C).

Huge Tribal Rally Held in Maharashtra

ON October 3, 2016, over 50,000 adivasi peasants, women, youth and students from all over Maharashtra under the joint leadership of the AIKS, AIDWA, DYFI, SFI and AARM held an unprecedented gherao agitation outside adivasi development minister Vishnu Savra's house at the sub divisional centre of Wada in Palghar district. The gherao continued for 16 hours till dawn on October 4 with tens of thousands of people.

Massive Victory Rally in Solapur Celebrates Sanction of Scheme of 30,000 Houses for Unorganised Workers

JULY 24, 2016 was a special day in Solapur. The massive Home Maidan saw a huge 70,000-strong rally of unorganised workers – an overwhelming number of whom were women, including Muslim women in thousands – to celebrate the eventual sanction by the central and state governments of a scheme for building 30,000 affordable permanent houses for unorganised workers. The sanction came after a prolonged struggle that was led by the CPI(M) and CITU.
