THE orgy of violence unleashed in Tripura after the assembly election results were announced on March 2 was an act foretold once the BJP got a majority, albeit a narrow one. As of March 6, around a thousand incidents of attacks and violence by the BJP gangs took place all over the state. These were in the form of physical attacks on CPI(M), Left Front and Congress workers and supporters, ransacking or burning of their houses and demolition of party offices.
SIGNS of the protest-base broadening are prominent in West Bengal. The more the autocratic Trinamool Congress regime descends into tyrannical attitudes and practices, exposing its mercilessly anti-people character, the stronger will be the strength of people’s protest and resistance. For more than a decade, employees who earn their salaries from the state government exchequer have suffered deprivation of rights, intimidation, harassment, unfair and wrongful transfer and humiliation.
ON February 26, 2023, a programme was organised on the topic 'Three Years of North-East Delhi Communal Violence' at the Quami Ekta Bhawan of Major Jaipal Singh Trust in North East Delhi. Around 110 people took part in this programme. Indumati started the programme by reciting a poem.A large number of people from the families affected by the violence participated. Among the affected, Malika, Aagaz, Ramsugarath and Rehana narrated their harrowing experiences. All of them had one thing to say that neither justice was served nor adequate compensation.

THE Ukraine War has now completed one year. Unfortunately, one of the consequences of the war is that the New START, the last remaining arms control agreement on nuclear weapons and missiles, has also gone into limbo. On February 21, President Putin announced that Russia has “suspended” its participation in New START, though it will still observe the limits set on the nuclear missiles and warheads till the agreement expires in 2026.
THERE is an impression shared by even progressive intellectuals that the entity that goes by the name of “physical infrastructure” is an absolute necessity in each country, and that the actual amount of infrastructure that exists is always less than what is needed. There is in other words no such thing as “too much investment” being made in infrastructure.Because of this no objections are usually raised to the magnitude of resources that are devoted towards building such infrastructure.
