22nd World Peace Council Assembly Held in Vietnam

THE 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council (WPC) was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 22-24, 2022. One hundred and eight delegates, representing 58 organisations from 53 countries participated in this Assembly. The Vietnam Peace Committee (VPC) hosted this event for the first time in Vietnam. Three representatives from the All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO), one of the founder organisations of the WPC, participated in the Assembly.The WPC Assembly was preceded by a meeting of the Executive Committee of the WPC on November 21.

Hyderabad to Host 17th all India Conference of SFI

HAVING been chosen as the venue of the 17th all-India conference of the Students’ Federation of India, Hyderabad becomes the first city to host the highest conference of SFI two times in history. The land of the heroic Telangana uprising was the venue of the 12th all-India conference, held in 2005. The 17th conference will take place from December 13 to 16 at Osmania University. This all-India conference is happening after four years since the completion of the 16th conference in Shimla in November 2018. The conference was delayed a year due to the pandemic.

CPI(M) Leaders Attacked in Tripura

Another brutal attack on the CPI(M) leaders and workers was unleashed in Charilam Bazar, Sepahijala district, by the ruling BJP miscreants who also killed Comrade Sahid Miah, (65), a farmer, former Party member and presently closely associated with the party. This attack took place on November 30.

Brutal Attack on Peaceful Rally of Govt Employees, Teachers

PREDICTABLY the authoritarian Trinamool Congress government came down heavily on working and retired state government employees as well as school teachers when they tried to peacefully march towards the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on November 23 demanding payment of pending 35 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears. Many of them were lathi-charged and received blows from the police and bled. The most shameful was the fact that the police personnel, especially the ‘civic’ (casual or ad hoc appointee) police, did not spare even women and aged pensioners.

ON November 15, 2022, during the G20 summit in Bali (Indonesia), Australia’s prime minister Anthony Albanese told journalists that his country seeks a ‘stable relationship with China’. The main reason for this, Albanese said, is because China is ‘Australia’s largest trading partner. They are worth more than Japan, the US, and the Republic of Korea together combined’. The 2022 Data Privacy Bill: A New Version or the Charter of Surveillance Capitalism?

THE new avatar of the Indian Data Protection Bill 2022 is not simply the rebirth of the earlier 2019 one. The objective of the earlier Data Protection Bill 2019 was to give a legal framework for the Supreme Court's Puttuswamy judgement of privacy as a fundamental right. The 2022 Bill has a different purpose. This version proclaims the citizen's right to privacy but allows the government to override this right at its will. The other objective of the new Bill is to enable big business—Indian and foreign—to use our data for their benefit.
